Mission Statement
The College of Education and Behavioral Science prepares professionals who improve lives and communities. Through excellence in teaching, research, and service, we promote lifelong learning, healthy development, and effective partnerships that strengthen education and well-being across our region and beyond.

Mamie Davis Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students
- Full time student.
- 2.5 GPA
- Must be a non-traditional student majoring in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Helen P. Dudley Memorial Scholarship
- Must be a full-time student majoring in the field of Education working towards a teaching degree.
- Undergraduate or graduate student.
- Candidate should be a single parent.
- Financial need.
- Applicant should show a desire to be an educator who will make a difference in students’ lives.
- Applicant should submit a short essay demonstrating how they will benefit from this scholarship.
- Recipient will write a personal letter about what it meant to them to receive the scholarship. The letter will be sent to the children of Judge Robert Dudley.

- Additional consideration for students pursuing degree in Special Education (not a mandatory requirement)

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
- Full-time incoming freshman from Randolph County.
- First preference is a student majoring in the College of Education, preferably elementary education with an interest in teaching the value of nutrition & fitness.
- Second preference may be a student majoring in physical education.
- If there are no applicants from Randolph County, next preference is Sharp & Lawrence Counties, & then other counties may be considered.
- If there are no applicants from Randolph, Sharp, or Lawrence Counties majoring in Education, or no applicants at all that qualify, preference is that ASU use its judgment in making awards.

- Minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
- Preference given to students from Lawrence, Greene, and Craighead Counties.

The Commission on Sport Management Accreditation is a specialized accrediting body whose purpose is to promote and recognize excellence in sport management education worldwide in colleges and universities at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels through specialized accreditation.

Right to Read Act
Act 1063 of 2017, the Right to Read Act, states: “Beginning no later than the 2022-2023 school year, each state-approved educator preparation program shall post on its website information describing its program to prepare teachers to teach reading using scientific reading instruction aligned with but not limited to the content measured by the stand-alone reading assessment adopted by the State Board of Education under § 6-17-402.”
Candidates enrolled in Elementary Education K-6 and Special Education K-12 programs must complete coursework and pass the Foundations of Reading test to be considered proficient in scientific reading instruction to obtain a license.
Candidates enrolled in all other licensure area programs must complete the coursework to be considered awareness level in scientific reading instruction to obtain a license.
In 2019, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education approved Arkansas State University pathways to meet this requirement. The pathways are aligned to the appropriate Foundations of Reading Competencies – Proficiency Level or Foundations of Reading Competencies – Awareness Level. DESE – Approved Course/Modules lists approved courses/modules for all approved licensure programs in Arkansas.
