Dudley Memorial Scholarship Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship: Must be a full-time student majoring in the field of Education working towards a teaching degree. Undergraduate or graduate student. Candidate should be a single parent. Financial need. Applicant should show a desire to be an educator who will make a difference in students’ lives. Applicant should submit a short essay demonstrating how they will benefit from this scholarship. Recipient will write a personal letter about what it meant to them to receive the scholarship. The letter will be sent to the children of Judge Robert Dudley.   Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship: This is a one-time award.  However, if the committee believes that the current selection is an exceptional student it is to their discretion to make a multi-year award.  Selection Made By: The Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Science after consultation with the School of Teacher Education and Leadership. The number of recipients may be increased based on the balance. Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship: Full-time incoming freshman from Randolph County. First preference is a student majoring in the College of Education, preferably elementary education with an interest in teaching the value of nutrition & fitness. Second preference may be a student majoring in physical education. If there are no applicants from Randolph County, next preference is Sharp & Lawrence Counties, & then other counties may be considered. If there are no applicants from Randolph, Sharp, or Lawrence Counties majoring in Education, or no applicants at all that qualify, preference is that ASU use its judgment in making awards. Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship: Award may be renewed through senior year if student continues to meet criteria & achieve academic progress. Selection Made By: Scholarship committee consisting of Associate Dean of College of Education, Chair of Department of Teacher Education, & Chair of Health, Physical Education & Sports Sciences. Other Comments: High school counselors should be informed of the availability of the scholarship in the specific geographic area. Minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. Preference given to students from Lawrence, Greene, and Craighead Counties. Candidates enrolled in all other licensure area programs must complete the coursework to be considered awareness level in scientific reading instruction to obtain a license. In 2019, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education approved Arkansas State University pathways to meet this requirement. The pathways are aligned to the appropriate Foundations of Reading Competencies – Proficiency Level or Foundations of Reading Competencies – Awareness Level.
