# Health Studies Welcome Letter

**Bachelor of Science in Health Studies Program**

 Bachelor of Science in Health Studies Prerequisite Courses:

- **Professional Track**- completion of OTA 2022 Emergence of OT Science **OR** PTA 2252 Clinical Education I **OR** equivalent for other allied health graduates.
- **Non-Professional track**- completion of HP 2112, Introduction to the U.S. Healthcare System.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Studies program is available as either a face-to-face program at the traditional Arkansas State University – Jonesboro campus or through AOS or as a 100% online program.

**Admission Requirements:**

- Program Application (paper for face-to-face program, online for AOS program)
- Official Transcripts
- Completion of at least 45 credit hours
- 2.5 Cumulative GPA

Multiple pathways are available to admittance at A-State, you should reach out to an enrollment specialist or academic advisor for assistance with the admissions process. The program director will be happy to connect you with someone to help with the admissions process.

**Program Requirements:**

Many traditional, face-to-face courses are offered in the 15-week format during the fall and spring semesters and 5-week or 10-week format during the summer term. Online general education courses and Health Studies program courses are offered in the 7-week format during fall, spring and summer semesters.

To earn your Bachelor of Science in Health Studies, you need to complete 120 credit hours of coursework whether you take the Professional Track or Non-Professional Track. The program includes 38 credit hours of general education courses, 47 credit hours of major courses, 3-17 credit hours of support courses and 6-18 credit hours of electives dependent upon track pursued.

**Program Tracks:**

 Professional Track**- provides a transition from an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences such as PTA, OTA, radiography, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, etc. to a Bachelor’s degree.

**Non-professional Track**- includes a 120-credit hour degree plan. This degree does not lead to a professional credential or state licensure. It does prepare students for roles in community health, support services, health care navigation, claims services, medical sales and patient services.

**Previously earned credit hours and transfer credit hours:**

Transfer credit hours will be evaluated during the admission process. If you have previously earned degrees in a related discipline or experiential learning, please reach out to the program director, an enrollment specialist, or academic advisor to discuss potential options for prior learning assessments or articulated credits.
