Mamie Davis Endowed Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
  • Full time student.
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Must be a non-traditional student majoring in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Helen P. Dudley Memorial Scholarship

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
  • Must be a full-time student majoring in the field of Education working towards a teaching degree.
  • Undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Candidate should be a single parent.
  • Financial need.
  • Applicant should show a desire to be an educator who will make a difference in students’ lives.
  • Applicant should submit a short essay demonstrating how they will benefit from this scholarship.
  • Recipient will write a personal letter about what it meant to them to receive the scholarship. The letter will be sent to the children of Judge Robert Dudley. 

Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship:

This is a one-time award.  However, if the committee believes that the current selection is an exceptional student it is to their discretion to make a multi-year award.

John and Patricia Gibson Education Endowed Scholarship

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
  • Full time, junior and senior students with a minimum 3.25 GPA
  • Seeking Bachelor of Science degree in Education
  • Additional consideration for students pursuing degree in Special Education (not a mandatory requirement)
  • Must demonstrate need for financial assistance
  • Scholarship may be renewed, provided award criteria are maintained
Qualification for Maintaining the Scholarship:
3.25 over GPA at the end of each semester, and continuation as a full-time Education major (or related major)

Other:
Applicants and awardees must reapply every year, with each award renewable through the end of their senior year (junior and senior recipients). Recipients may not receive the award more than 2 years.

Tom and Shirley Manning Endowment

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
  • Full time student.

  • Undergraduate student of any level majoring in the College of Education pursuing a teaching career.

  • Minimum College GPA of 2.5.

  • First choice is a student athlete football player. Second choice is a student athlete in any organized sport sponsored by A-State.

Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship:

Student may be renewed for multiple years at the approval of the committee.

Arthur Monroe Shride Memorial Scholarship

Amount and Term of Award:
Amount of the award depends on earnings of the endowment. The number of recipients may be increased based on the balance.

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:

  • Full-time incoming freshman from Randolph County.
  • First preference is a student majoring in the College of Education, preferably elementary education with an interest in teaching the value of nutrition & fitness.
  • Second preference may be a student majoring in physical education.
  • If there are no applicants from Randolph County, next preference is Sharp & Lawrence Counties, & then other counties may be considered.
  • If there are no applicants from Randolph, Sharp, or Lawrence Counties majoring in Education, or no applicants at all that qualify, preference is that ASU use its judgment in making awards.

Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship:

Award may be renewed through senior year if student continues to meet criteria & achieve academic progress.

Selection Made By:

Scholarship committee consisting of Associate Dean of College of Education, Chair of Department of Teacher Education, & Chair of Health, Physical Education & Sports Sciences.

Other Comments:

High school counselors should be informed of the availability of the scholarship in the specific geographic area.

Jim and Wanda Lee Vaughn Memorial Scholarship 

Qualifications for Receiving Scholarship:
  • Full-time undergraduate student majoring in education, preferably an elementary or middle level education degree.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Preference given to students from Lawrence, Greene, and Craighead Counties.
  • Financial aid is a major factor. 

Qualifications for Maintaining the Scholarship: 

Award is renewable through completion of the undergraduate degree (up to eight semesters) as long as the recipient continues to meet all award criteria and successfully fulfills a yearly review by the contact person. 

Selection Made By:

The Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Science will interview all candidates & determine the candidate best qualified for the scholarship. 

Other Comments:

Publicity shall be given as deemed appropriate by the Arkansas State University Foundation, Inc., & Donor, & will be coordinated through University Communications.
