Spectrum Concert
The Spectrum Concert is an annual event held in April that features performances from ensembles across the Department of Music as well as solo and chamber performances by students, selected by a juried audition.
The 2026 Spectrum Concert will be held on April 10, 2026 at 7:30pm in Riceland Hall.
Application Form
Students may audition to be included on the Spectrum Concert program. The audition consists of a submitted video performance. The deadline for submission is March 2, 2026.
Guidelines
- Spectrum Concert auditions are open to all undergraduate and graduate students with the approval of their A-State applied music teacher.
- Auditions will take place as an unlisted YouTube video submission link.
STUDENT PERFORMANCES (Solo or Chamber)
- The length of the selection should not exceed ten minutes and the entrant will be disqualified if longer.
- Ensembles of up to five members (with no conductor) will be allowed to participate. (Only one member needs to fill out the application, but must supply ALL the required information for each member.)
- Faculty members may serve as collaborative pianists. An appropriate notation will be included on the program.
STUDENT PERFORMANCES (Studio Ensemble)
- The length of the selection should not exceed ten minutes and the entrant will be disqualified if longer.
STUDENT COMPOSITIONS
- Must conform to the time limits of the performance guidelines.
- The piece can be performed by either a student or a faculty member. An appropriate notation will be included in the program for faculty members.
- The auditioning panel should attempt to consider the entire range of musical expression. We are attempting to represent the finest achievements by a student in the Department of Music.
- The composition faculty will screen pieces and recommend a student submit a piece for audition and will recommend only those pieces considered exceptional.
JUDGING INFORMATION
Faculty Judges will vote "yes" or "no" for each applicant, and supply written comments under given categories. At least three "yes" votes are needed for student to be included on the program. If the number of students receiving sufficient "yes" votes exceeds the time limit for the program, judges will choose the participants through discussion.The judging sheets will be returned to the applied teacher with brief constructive comments.
APPLICATION INFORMATION
- Applicants will need to include the following:
- Title of piece
- Composer, with birth/death dates
100-word Bio (sample bio below*)Headshot (photo)- A link to a PDF copy of the FULL score required. (Parts will NOT be accepted.) The link can be from Google Drive, Dropbox or something similar.
- A link to an unlisted YouTube video of your performance
- Deadline: March 2, 2026, 11:59 pm
Applied faculty will receive an email from Qualtrics as soon as a student fills out the application. They will need to approve or reject the application by emailing Dr. Deborah Popham to be considered for placement on the Spectrum Concert.
