Hot Work Precautions Checklist
Flame- or spark-producing equipment has been inspected and is in good repair
If fire suppression sprinklers are installed, they will remain operable for the duration of the hot work being
performed.
If any flammable dust, lint, vapors or liquids are present, they have been cleared from the hot work area.
If any combustible material that can be moved is present, it will be relocated at least 35 feet away from the hot
work area.
If any unpurged tanks or equipment previously containing flammable material are present, they have been
removed from the area.
If combustible floors, walls, materials or object that cannot be removed from the area are present, they will be
protected by fire resistant shielding or by wetting the area down. This includes grassy areas outdoors.
Ample fire extinguishing equipment is accessible and unobstructed within 15 feet of the hot work to be
performed.
A dedicated fire watch will be assigned to all areas within 35 feet of the hot work while the work is being
performed and for 30 minutes after the work has been completed, including floors below where necessary.
If cracks or floor openings are present within 35 feet of the hot work, the same precautions that apply to the
immediate area will apply to the floors below and a dedicated fire watch will be assigned to areas where sparks
may fall.
