Committee Overview

The General Education Committee (GEC) provides guidance and direction to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research (VCAAR) to improve the quality and relevance of the university's general education curriculum. The committee considers proposals for curriculum modifications, reviews each general education course every four years for acceptability, and reviews assessment data from the Assessment Office to make recommendations to the VCAAR.

Membership consists of tenured faculty representatives from each college, with additional representation from multi-department colleges. The chair serves a three-year term and may not be reappointed consecutively. Ex-officio, non-voting members provide support and guidance.

The committee reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research.
