Committee Overview

The Shared Governance Oversight Committee (SGOC) manages the shared governance process at the university. It serves as both the entry and exit point for all shared governance proposals and acts as the liaison to the Chancellor. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing shared governance procedures and committee performance

  • Addressing possible violations of the shared governance process (not specific actions or decisions by individual committees)

  • Evaluating retention, discontinuation, or creation of shared governance committees

  • Conducting an annual review of shared governance processes

  • Leading a triennial survey to assess campus satisfaction with shared governance

The committee elects a chair, vice-chair, and secretary at the beginning of each academic year. At least one faculty member and one staff member must hold officer positions each year. Chair and vice-chair positions have a maximum of two consecutive years of service without rotation.
