College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) helps students earn college credit for knowledge they already possess—saving time and money. CLEP exams are accepted at more than 2,900 colleges and universities, including Arkansas State University.
CLEP exams are computer-based, administered in the Testing Center, and available by appointment. Students may choose from 33 subject exams in areas such as history, literature, science, mathematics, and foreign languages.
? Who Should Take CLEP Exams?
CLEP is ideal for:
- Students with prior learning from work, military service, or independent study
- Students seeking to accelerate their degree path
- Adult learners returning to college
? Eligibility for Credit at A-State
Anyone may take a CLEP exam. However, CLEP credit is NOT awarded for:
- A course the student has already completed, regardless of the grade
- A course for which the student has completed a more advanced course
- Example: No credit for Freshman English I if credit was earned in Freshman English II
- Exception: Students may earn credit for Spanish, French, or German CLEP exams even if they’ve completed a more advanced course, as long as they haven’t received a passing grade in the course for which CLEP credit is awarded.
Important: Students must drop any enrolled course before receiving CLEP credit for that course.
