Pregnancy & Parenting

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq., is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, including pregnancy and parental status, in educational programs and activities. This protection includes pregnancy-related conditions, such as childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, related medical conditions, lactation, and recovery from any of these conditions.

At Arkansas State University, we are committed to supporting students who are pregnant, parenting, or experiencing pregnancy-related conditions. Under Title IX, students have the right to continue their education free from discrimination based on pregnancy, childbirth, termination of pregnancy, lactation, false pregnancy, recovery from childbirth, and related medical conditions.

The Office of Institutional Integrity & Title IX can assist students by coordinating reasonable modifications, helping maintain equal access to academic programs and activities, and connecting students with available campus and community resources. Support may include adjustments related to attendance, coursework, lactation needs, temporary medical conditions, and other pregnancy-related circumstances. Our goal is to help students successfully navigate their educational experience while balancing pregnancy and parenting responsibilities.

Students seeking assistance or information about their rights and available support are encouraged to contact the Office of Institutional Integrity & Title IX. We are available to discuss individual needs, answer questions, and help identify appropriate resources and accommodations.
