How to Install Microsoft 365

Included programs:

Uninstall any existing versions of Office

Do you already have Office installed? Before install the Microsoft 365 apps, please uninstall the old version (Mac or PC).

Uninstalling Office will not remove any files, documents, or workbooks you created using the apps.

Download the installer

  1. Go to https://www.office.com
  2. On the Sign in screen, enter (or choose) your @astate.edu email address
    • If prompted to choose a Work or school account or a Personal account, always pick the Work or school account.
  3. Click Next
  4. Enter your A-State password
  5. Click Sign in
  6. Decide whether to stay signed in (if you are on a public computer, choose No)
  7. If prompted, provide Duo verification
  8. In the upper right hand corner, click Install apps. You will be presented with two options:
    • Microsoft 365 apps: Download the full set of popular Office titles: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams and OneNote. The installer is a small file, however, once you start the installer, it will download all the other installation files and will requires a good Internet connection and 15-30 minutes to complete.
    • Other install options: This takes you to your My account page, where you can choose to Install Office, review the other apps available in your subscription, and review your authorized devices. 

Begin installation

  1. Double-click the downloaded installation file
  2. Follow the onscreen prompts and sign in with your A-State email address and password when asked.
    • If prompted to choose a Work or school account or a Personal account, always pick the Work or school account.

Windows: Install from the Command Line

  1. Open the Windows Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell.
  2. Enter the following command:
    winget install --id Microsoft.Office

Note: Choose "No" if prompted to link your school account to your personal account, as this may change or disable certain security policies assigned to your device by default.
